Sofht Gives Roberts Bakery A ‘High 5’

Family owned bakery business, Roberts, has joined The Society of Food Hygiene & Technology (SOFHT)’s innovative High 5 membership scheme, which enables five technical staff to attend training with SOFHT as well as access to the society’s expertise in advances in food hygiene and safety.

Roberts Gin and Tonic Fun Buns

Established in 1887, Roberts has recently undergone a total rebrand and repositioning in the market, supported by a raft of delicious new products with a call to ‘embrace the new’ aimed at both trade customers and consumers UK-wide.

On shelf now from the creative bakers are Gin and Tonic Fun Buns, Fiery Corn Ready-to Rolls and a range of artisan, paper-wrapped Bloomers including Seriously Seeded as well as the favourite best-selling lines – all sporting the refreshing new look.

The company currently operates across two sites – Northwich in Cheshire and Ilkeston in Derbyshire – baking around two million products a week.

Joining SOFHT as a High 5 member means that technical staff across each of Robert’s sites can get access to top notch training, establish a good support network and get the chance to share issues and success with like-minded people.

Steve Beckett, Hygiene Manager at Roberts, explains:
“High 5 is a good option for us as we are able to send five technical staff to training at SOFHT at a reduced rate, within our membership. SOFHT’s training academy offers flexible training too which is a real bonus. Level 4 food safety training for example, can be carried out one day at a time, so is perfect for food industry professionals to update and refresh their training without the need to take a week out of work.

“The training days will aid our team building, as staff based at different sites can meet and communicate, building stronger relationships between the young, creative teams who are behind the new-look Roberts brand.

“In return, Roberts can offer bakery knowledge and expertise in technical, hygiene and pest control systems which we believe can benefit other SOFHT members too”.

SOFHT High 5, which is open to all technical team players such as Hygiene Managers, QC Managers, Food Technologists, Lab Managers and Quality Auditors includes free delegate places at events, discounts for SOFHT Training Academy Courses and Breakfast Clubs as well as entitlement to use MSOFHT designation and the option to sit on the SOFHT Hygiene in Focus Working Group and the Technical Forum/Working Party Group.

The cost for High 5 membership is £295 for five members.
