The Society is delighted to hold its 38th Annual Lecture, Lunch and SOFHT Awards presentations at a new, more spacious venue to welcome members and their guests.
Lecture presented by Stefan Gates, BBC presenter and author entitled ‘Gastronaut: Extraordinary adventures in food science’.
Stefan Gates wants the British to care more about their food, and he does this by creating spectacular, explosive and unforgettable science stage shows that explore the secrets and complex science behind it.
THIS WON’T BE ANY ORDINARY LECTURE:
Stefan uses vortex smell cannons, IR cameras, edible acid-base reactions, quantum mechanical glowing drinks, robots, live insects, calorie flamethrowers and he freezes cheese with fire extinguishers to explain complex olfactory thermodynamics.
Stefan has made 18 TV series including Food Factory, E Numbers: An Edible Adventure and Cooking in the Danger Zone (BBC2), Can Eating insects Save the World (BBC4), Incredible Edibles and Gastronuts (CBBC). He has written six books and is currently finishing two more (Insects: An Edible Field Guide and Fartology). He is one of the UK’s leading science communicators and is a judge for Radio 4’s Food & Farming Awards.
