About the Position

Hours Per Week: 40
Days Per Week: Monday to Friday
Basis: Fulltime and Permanent
Closing Date:  20th August 2018

The Trowbridge laboratory carries out microbiological testing for a wide range of food and water clients. The site is M&S and Tesco approved and accredited for water testing to drinking water standards. This role reports to the Laboratory Manager and plays a key part in supervising general pathogen / microbiology work without deviation from the documented methodology and in line with all Quality and Health and Safety procedures

The successful applicant will supervise the operation of the pathogen department and provide training and development to staff in the tasks performed within this area. Duties will include plate counting, identification and confirmation testing and assisting with technical queries associated with this analysis both from colleagues and in relation to client requests. Technical investigations, method development and review and validation work are also included in this role.

About you

Candidates should be educated to degree level in Microbiology or a related science subject or have 4 years’ experience within a relevant microbiology laboratory.  Significant theoretical and practical knowledge of microbiology analysis across a wide range of methodologies and procedures is required.

A familiarity with computers is essential including the use of Microsoft office packages. Knowledge and experience of of ALimS would be an advantage but training can be provided.

Previous supervisory experience and good written and verbal communication skills are required as is the ability to work on your own initiative and to prioritise workloads in this busy environment.
