A message from the editor:

We have produced SOFHT Focus as an electronic version for a year now. The feedback on the whole has been good and we are looking, over the next year, to provide even more informative articles.

Thank you to both Fiona Scholes and Phil Shaw who join me as assistant editors. With their wealth of experience we are able to cover all of the main areas of interest to our readers: microbiology, legislation, pest control, cleaning technologies and the wide range of other functions managed within the food industry.

Within this edition, you will be able to see pictures of the society’s 30th anniversary Annual Lecture, in which the speaker, Ken McMeikan, chief executive of Greggs Plc, gave a very thought-provoking speech entitled Driving Success in Uncertain Times. There are also articles relating to legislation, food fraud and nanotechnology.
