Natasha’s Law – Labelling of Food Pre-packed for Direct Sale
In the summer of 2019 legislation was promised to improve the provision to consumers of information about allergens in food. The Food Information (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2019, published in September, introduce the anticipated changes to the legal requirement for display of information about allergenic ingredients to consumers for products that are prepacked for direct sale (PPDS). The changes are effective from 1st October 2021.
Understanding the new rules is essential for every food business, from small independent retailers and coffee shops through to large retailers. To meet the deadline food businesses should start planning and preparing for the changes now, for some the requirement to display the full ingredients list will require new processes and new equipment.
This half hour presentation will explain how the new rules affect labelling for businesses that display food that is prepacked for direct sale to help you make the decisions that will facilitate a timely implementation. As well as detailing how to create an ingredient lists with the appropriate content and in the right format, the presentation will explain the additional information required on labels for food that is PPDS and the steps you will need to take to make sure the information you are presenting to your customers is correct.
